Dramatized night visits in the Almudena Cemetery

Last month, the Madrid Funeral Services (SFM) launched a program of guided visits to the largest cemetery in Madrid, the Almudena cemetery, at popular prices: ranging from €1.5 to €3, a total of 8,500 people. You can sign up for these routes since last May. And they are added now the first theatrical nocturnal visits that the cemetery organizes in its almost 130 years of history.

These new nocturnal visits that are opening this summer have the objective of make known in a different way to the people of Madrid the extensive heritage that the cemetery houses –a feature that can be extended to others in Madrid, such as San Isidro–.

“The sunset, the dim lighting and the majestic cultural heritage of the Cemetery create a perfect setting for traveling through the history it houses,” reads a text on the SFM website. The visits will last two and a half hours.

A guide will explain the origins and artistic styles that can be found in the necropolis and, throughout the tour, “actors (from the Sergio Pazos theater company) who will give life to prominent historical figures such as writers, politicians, artists and others whose remains rest in the cemetery«.
